aquarium

I found an aquarium dvd at a novelty shop the other day, and couldn't help but buy it. It took some time, but Mittens does watch intently. I'll take a photo of her cuteness.

growing up

Mittens was at the vet for her boosters last night and she has grown half a kg in 3 weeks. This science diet is miraculous. So now she weighs a hefty 1250 grams.

water (again)

This is getting weird - this morning she climbed right into the shower after we had finished using it. WTH?

water

Cats don't like it, is what I always thought. Mittens seems a little special; she rubs herself on our legs when we've just stepped out of the shower - until she's wet herself, and yesterday she played outside quite happily in the rain. What's the deal?

advertensie

"Do you need someone to look after your cat while you are away? I do too! If you live in the neighbourhood, do you want to be cat friends?" ... an ad I put up on those boards in the supermarket. Let's see... Brendan booked our dream weekend for the 28th - it's only one night, but I feel extremely bad about leaving mittens alone.

pikwe's photos

Pikwe and Grant came to stay with us the weekend before last and she has published a very cute photo of mittens ... (who is enjoying her new food, so is probably getting a iams package treat tomorrow night) ... here.

cap

Mittens has a new toy - the lid of a bruisend bar-le-duc water. It's even more fun than the table tennis balls, six of which are missing in action - somehow in our small house.

ps: Trust me, Royal Canin tastes better than Iams, and possibly even Felix.

Piss-cat

Mittens has her first alternative name (pisscat)... given to her after she decided Brendan's running shorts are the front side toilet. Jeez they stink and are going to have to have a detol soak because they still smell after one machine wash.

taste testing

Mittens is still not enjoying her chicken Iams, so I did a taste test. A character from my favourite book this year, Running with scissors, ate pet food, so I figured it wouldn't kill me, but I digress. Basically I agree with her - Felix chunks, fish flavour, have a better flavour than Iams which tastes like cardboard. And Google agreed - "8 out of 10 cats don't like Iams".

I have stopped feeding her Felix today (I was giving her a few chunks to smooth the transition) and she is, luckily, smart to realise the the option of starving is much worse than eating cardboard. Shame though ... I will try Royal Canine fish flavour this weekend.

Google also gave a voice to people who believe dry foods increase health problems later ... some who believe this is another one of those capitalist conspiracies. Hmmm. check this out: http://www.catinfo.org/ Are we feeding cats too many carbohydrates? OMG. What do you think?

parrot

I've probably said this a few times already, but sometimes I wonder if my kitty is a parrot. She just loves to sit on your shoulder. Sitting or standing, she doesn't mind and there's always a way to get there. Either up your pants legs (ow) and if you're Brendan right to the top of your head with a friendly nibble on his ear. Otherwise, from the window sill or couch back it's simple and happens before you realise [jump!]. Eish, I hope this is a temporary fixation.

On a completely different note, Bridget's NPO is about to explode. Siyasiza. Good luck!

9 growing

She's growing, I swear ... even if she doesn't like the expensive science food. A quick cat news roundup. We've finally found the right place for her box - in the hallway, close to our room. And she sits in there quite peacefully cos she can see us almost everywhere in the house from there (yes our place is small).

vet visit

She weighs 780 grams. I do not kid. The vet made me feel a little paranoid about my little runt, saying her size could possible mean later problems ... or she could just be small (and cute have I said that lately?). But she looks well, didn't have fleas or ear mites, and suffered her first vaccination (flu).

Brendan kindly bought some iams science diet food today and we have to wean her on that immediately. So long supermarket cat food.

full of beans

Well little mittens is full of beans this evening and running around like a maniac doing this strange sideways hop she has perfected. Hopefully she will get tuckered out so she doesn't wake us at 4am again.

Tomorrow is our first vet day.

studying

She doesn't like me studying. In fact she likes to chew the edges, block my view, and turn pages. But she also keeps herself amused. I have been taking her outside, but she is still very small and scared of traffic. I love my kitty.
